This is a course we have developed to increase emotional wellbeing in students. It is run in school time and a group of up to 10 students at a time.
The GROW course takes students through a process to assist them to improve their emotional wellbeing through discussion, activities, games and worksheets.
It runs for 5 sessions over a total of 18 hours. Topics include:
* what does – and does not – foster emotional wellbeing
* how to enhance self-worth and self-efficacy
* developing a growth mindset and fostering resilience
* ways to cope with emotions that might seem overwhelming, including dealing
with anxiety constructively
* communication skills
Each week, students are offered ideas and techniques which they are invited to try out.
We measure our impact using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale. This is a self-reporting measure comprising 14 questions answered using a 5 point scale, thus giving a maximum possible score of 70 points.
In a recent course (finishing in December 2017) emotional wellbeing in the group improved by an average of 27%.
